Frequently Asked Questions
Where are the volunteer positions available in Lake County Board of County Commissioners?
Many volunteer opportunities are in and around the County offices in Tavares, but they are also at the Judicial Center, the libraries, satellite locations and various parks around the County. Volunteers also serve during disaster response and recovery efforts throughout the County.

How can I learn more about the departments and programs that the Lake County BOCC has?
Go to the Lake County website -- LakeCountyFL.gov -- for a list of departments and programs.

Are there volunteer and/or internship opportunities outside of the Lake County BOCC offices that I may volunteer for?
Yes. VolunteerLAKE is always on the lookout for ways to get more individuals, groups and companies involved in meaningful, hands-on volunteer projects. Our goals are to help solve community problems, enable people to learn about community issues and to empower them to make a difference. Please keep in mind that our efforts benefit non-profit organizations, public schools, municipal parks and recreation centers, not VolunteerLAKE or for-profit entities.

How can I learn more about volunteer and/or internships opportunities?
Go to the national volunteer website -- 1-800-Volunteer.org -- to find available opportunities by category and/or zip code. Or you can email VolunteerLAKE -- HOsborne@lakecountyfl.gov -- or call 352-742-6590 for more information.

How much time is required to volunteer and are the hours flexible?
Generally, volunteer assignments vary from 2 - 8 hours a week and volunteers are asked to make a minimum commitment of three months. Some positions require longer commitments; others are shorter term, e.g., special projects, hands on project event. Many positions are flexibly scheduled and others require set hours. Volunteer opportunities are also available on weekends, holidays and evenings.

Can my group find a volunteer project through VolunteerLAKE that will allow us to volunteer as a group?
Yes, VolunteerLAKE will identify a project that suits your vision, mission and goals. We will coordinate all project details and logistics. Corporate team-building projects may have a fee associated with them. Call 352-742-6590 for specifics.

Do I need training or experience for long-term volunteer position openings?
Some positions require no experience and others offer on-the-job training. For some, like County Court Mediation and Disaster Volunteer Reception Center members, and Lake County Family Literacy, a training program is required and provided free-of-charge. We will be happy to tell you the specifics of any position you are interested in.

Are there minimum age requirements on volunteer positions? How about background check requirements?
The volunteer/intern position description will indicate if there is an age minimum, preventative shots needed and/or background screening required.

When is a good time to call?
Anytime between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday - Thursday, or leave a voice mail message and we’ll call you back. Our number is 352-742-6590.
